6-1-10 Meeting Minutes for Northern WI NORML

Treasurers Report – 150.48 – 4 new members

Need to pick a date for our board elections – we previously wanted to wait until we have enough members to make a vote viable, but since we don’t want to wait forever, we should pick a date.
Jay introduced a motion that we designate the 1st tuesday in September for our vote.
Jessica Seconded the motion.
Motion passed at 6:41pm.

We had previously discussed the possibility of Outreach Meetings to other cities. Jay suggested that we set up outreach meetings only in those areas that are going to be included in the referendum for the time being, so that we can really concentrate on those areas where we can currently make a difference.

Persons who live outside the city cannot begin an initiative. Someone who lives in the city must be the one to initiate it. We want to target district 41 specifically. Jay suggested Poy Sippi, Narin suggested Freemont, and we also discussed several different cities. There is no standard petition that needs to be used, however, standard information does need to be included. We are waiting for Wisconsin NORML to take initiative. Madison NORML is probably going to use LODI as a test because it’s smaller and needs less signatures, and they have someone willing to get it started there, so we may use them as a test case.

We discussed the Picnic and whether to use our logo or the national NORML logo or the Wisconsin NORML logo – mixed opinions. Laura can get us a banner made, we just need to tell her what sizes and decide what should be on a banner. Jessica said to remember to include the website address. We are going to have 3 signs, we brainstormed on ideas for what they should say. We’re all going to do some more independent brainstorming and then take an informal vote. Jessica will email the logo to Jay to give to Laura/the printer.

We discussed the fact that the medical patients, while the bill is primarily to protect them, it does make them more vulnerable and they are understandably more cautious. We need to have the farmers, the doctors, the others out in the forefront instead. Many of the patients are too sick and scared to get out there and be an activist. And rightly so.

Picnic – Narin is our picnic coordinator. She is keeping a list of what people are bringing.
We have music set up for the parade also.
Laura informed us that the Ice is covered for the picnic.
The Old Hippie Candle Company is going to come to the picnic as a vendor.
There may be a tea vendor.
Laura may also know a business or two who would be a vendor.
For-profit businesses will need to pay a $5 vendor fee to the city of green lake – anyone can be a vendor.

Fundraiser Ideas:
Car Wash
July 10th/July 17th BBG’s
July 10th is the Iola Car Show
17th is Berlin Fox River Days
There are several other events listed on the meeting agenda that Jay passed out.

Laura informed us that a car in the demolition derby will have our Northern WI NORML logo on a demolition car in the Waushara county fair. We all approved of the idea.
