I used the YouTube feature that lets you see which of your facebook friends are also on youtube so you can subscribe to them. It’s kind of cool. While I was looking through my friends’ accounts, I came across Alex Toast’s Marijuana Song, and I got a kick out of it. Well done, Alex!
The War on Drugs: Band links: (Website)(Myspace)(Twitter) With influences ranging from Dylan and CCR, to Suicide and Silver Apples, Adam Granduciel joins a distinct set of songwriters with his own brand of timeless musicianship. Ushering in a new golden era of polished, yet subcultural exploration, Adam’s voice and music have that unmistakable singularity that comes along only so often.
This is not the canon rehashed, rather it is realized with a spirit of invention. This earnest playfulness is at the forefront of of the listening experience. Layered with popping ecstatic guitars, with drums sitting firmly and a voice that is urgent and in control, it’s like “I’m On Fire”-era Springsteen with 80s singalong qualities while still being firmly planted in the present.
Downers Grove
Downers Grove: (Facebook)(Myspace) A grove is a natural grouping of same-species plants. The area these plants occupy expands over time as seeds mature and fall, so a grove could be a forest in the making. Eau Claire’s Downers Grove is a four-piece band that sometimes sounds like five or six pieces. Downers Grove is a technical “progfrock” (progressive funk rock) band – danceable and upbeat, contrary to their name.
No matter what Downers Grove is playing, an extended, proficient jam is certain. And the band sounds highly trained; natural together. During live performances, these guys prove how elastic their songs are.
Chaos Revolution Theory
Chaos Revolution Theory: (Website)(Facebook)(Myspace)(Reverbnation) 2011 Madison Area Music Awards(MAMA) nominee Chaos Revolution Theory is a Madison, WI based rock band that can be described as a grungy combination of folk and prog tones in a rock style. CRT is also known for extensive live jams when the moon is right. They have traveled a long road, and are truly grateful for your positive energy. “It doesn’t get any more live and loud than that” raves Z104 WMZK.
Kazyak: (Website)(Facebook)(Twitter)(Myspace) KAZYAK A Beautiful Brontosaurus (self) Bebobble-deeing between countrified jams and upstart funky rock may show off a classic jam rock band influence, but this friendly and flowing vision utilizes an ambitious combination of elements to create a memorable recording filled with harmony vocals, salient solos and delectable rhythms that are especially admirable for a trio to produce.

The popular cannabis website named after the late Jack Herer and other news agencies reported that Willie Nelson was singing jail house blues in Hudspeth County Jail on marijuana charges. The Texas County has not made much news in the past and are enjoying there 15 minutes of fame.
Willie Nelson was detained and arrested for marijuana possession on Friday, on his way back to Austin, after spending Thanksgiving in California, officials said.
Nelson and his crew, who were aboard the country music star’s tour bus, were stopped Friday morning around 9 a.m., as they went through the border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca.
Agents found 6 ounces of marijuana on the bus.
Nelson was taken to the Hudspeth County Jail where he was charged with marijuana possession.
He posted $2,500 bail and was on his way again.
Willie Nelson has a long association with marijuana, as well as other celebrities in the music industry and beyond. From painters, poets, musicians, sculptors, dancers, filmmakers, and other “arty” types, to psychologists, computer programmers and more, many of the things that we consider artistic, entertaining, and useful, were created under the influence of marijuana.
When the Beatles John Lennon made the news, Art Garfunkel said “If John Lennon is deported, I’m leaving too… with my musicians… and my marijuana.” The Beatles themselves are on record discussing how marijuana influenced their works.
Ringo: Grass was really influential in a lot of our changes, especially with the writers. And because they were writing different material, we were playing differently. We were expanding in all ares of our lives, opening up to a lot of different attitudes.
Paul: One thing that he did introduce us to was pot… Bob came round to our hotel, and he said to us, “Here, try a bit of this.” It is very indiscreet to say this, because I don’t know whether Bob is telling people he turned The Beatles on to marijuana. But it was funny. (the Bob Paul is referring to is Bob Dylan.)
John:Rubber Soul was the pot album, and Revolver the acid.
John: Bob Dylan had heard one of our records where we said, “I can’t hide,” and he had understood, “I get high.” He came running and said to us, “Right, guys, I’ve got some really good grass.” How could you not dig a bloke like that? He thought we were used to drugs. We smoked and laughed all night. He kept answering our phone, saying, “This is Beatlemania here.” It was ridiculous. (the song he’s referring to is “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”)
John: We were smoking marijuana for breakfast during that period. Nobody could communicate with us; it was all glazed eyes and giggling all the time. In our own world.
Our good friend and loyal cannabis activist Alex Toast put out another version of his famous marijuana song. We hope you enjoy the music, words and video from some of the highs in the 2009-2011 push to legalize medical marijuana in Wisconsin.
A tune written about some specifics of the cannabis plant and biology.
Lyrics:
Take a hit of marijuana. It’s evil, that’s what they say.
But do you know what it does to you, in a biological way?
First it depends on the chemicals inside of the particular plant in the bowl.
You light up the pipe, and it lights up the night, but where do those chemicals go?
They go into the blood stream, and flow to the body’s receptors,
CB1 and CB2 as they are called.
Depending on the kind of herb that you are smoking
makes a difference which receptors are involved.
CB1 receptors are responsible for the euphoric and anticonvulsive effects found in cannabis.
The basal ganglia, limbic system, hippocampus, cerebellum, and the reproductive system is where they exist.
CB1 receptors pick up THC and Cannabidiol, both chemicals found in weed,
and they mimic the functions of anandamide, which your body creates out of need.
Cannabidiol or CBD is the chemical which makes fat ladies sing.
It acts as an antipsychotic, antiepileptic, neuroprotective, antispasmodic, among many other things.
There’s THC, CBD, CBN, CBC, TCN just to name a few
of the over 100 currently known cannabinoids which work effectively inside of you.
Each with their own specific chemical properties that help many unfortunate souls
with bad backs, cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and lots of other diseases too… So let’s help them be free…. to smoke a bowl.
🙂
During our Lights Out Happy Hour we will be continuing our Annual Celebration of April 20th. This means lots of great cheap eats and drinks while you party your collective butt off! Last year was a huge success raising lots of money for American’s for Safe Access. We are back this year with awesome music from a lot of the same groups, icluding Mouse Pocket, T.U.G.G., Undead Mariners (Hyphon and Efftupp of Another Exoneration with a backing band) Wild Acusations, a band from the mind that brought you Fishhooks, and Good Morning America featurting Copeous and Charlie Watson. This year some funds will be raised for two awesome campus organizations: Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) and Men United Against Sexual Assault (MUASA). SSDP describes it’s organization as: an international grassroots network of students who are concerned about the impact drug abuse has on our communities, but who also know that the War on Drugs is failing our generation and our society.
SSDP mobilizes and empowers young people to participate in the political process, pushing for sensible policies to achieve a safer and more just future, while fighting back against counterproductive Drug War policies, particularly those that directly harm students and youth.
MUASA describes themselves as: We are an organization of men and women on the campus of the University of Wisconsin — La Crosse that deal specifically with educating others and ourselves about the root causes and social norms surrounding sexual assault.
We understand that sexual assault is not just a women’s issue but is a men’s issue as well. We realize that everyone contributes to the culture in which we live; and therefore, everyone has the ability to change the rape culture which is prevalent in our society today.
Sexual assault is an issue we all must deal with due to the psychological and physical effects on the individual and our society as a whole. It is through the communication and collaborative work with all groups that we will begin to make a difference.
The vision of Men United Against Sexual Assault is primarily invested in the concept that it is necessary to empower men to understand that ending sexual violence is an issue is paramount in their pursuit to end all forms of violence primarily sexual assault.
We therefore call ourselves Men United Against Sexual Assault, not to exclude women from the goals of our organization or from our membership, but to empower men to realize how important their role is in ending violence against women.
Come out, support some great causes and cut loose!
