As a candidate on the campaign trail we know Rep. Kurtz heard from people who support marijuana reform.

The Freshman Republican assembly representative from Wonewoc has not co-sponsored any legislation on marijuana reform.

During 2019, the Assembly Republicans prefiled a bill for the 2020 legislative session to create a medical marijuana program in Wisconsin (Assembly Bill 750) which he failed to co-sponsor.

Holds office State Assembly District 50. Link to Full Scorecard Report.

Democrat Mark Waldon is running for the 50th District Assembly seat. His profile says that for far to long our representatives have been busy catering to the big donors and ignoring the will of the people. I’m a firm believer in representative democracy.

He was one of the first campaigns to make contact with us as NORML chapter to make sure we are aware he is running and cannabis reform is a priority.

A recent news article highlighted him and did mention that legalization of marijuana is one of his top four campaign platforms.

While he is running on the Democratic ticket, he said he classifies himself an Independent. The 50th District includes all of Juneau County and parts of Monroe, Richland, Vernon and Sauk counties. State assembly terms are two years.

Waldon grew up in Madison and attended UW-Madison to major in public relations and journalism. He helped run his family tavern for five years after college before moving to Denver, Colorado to take a corporate job for 17 years. He moved back to Wisconsin and settled in Vernon County in 2015 before moving to Reedsburg about a year and a half later.

Waldon said he would focus on four main issues if elected: expansion of BadgerCare, legalization of marijuana, clean water and protection of rural wells/waterways and expansion of free trade school opportunities to rural communities.

In fact, when I first visited his Facebook Campaign Page he was discussing how cannabis legalization would help small farmers.

Mark Waldon received an A+ rating from NORML.
