AD 27 Katsma (R) leaves, Brill (R) enters
Assembly District 27: Plymouth, Greenbush, Elkhart Lake, Kohler, Cascade, St. Cloud, Malone, Sheboygan Falls, Waldo, Howards Grove, Saint Peter, Mount Calvary, Kiel and Oostburg 67.5% Republican favored district.
The Republican Incumbent Katsma is the 19th member of the Assembly to announce plans to retire or to seek another office. Six of them are Republicans.
Current state law requires incumbents who do not plan to seek re-election to file a declaration with the Wisconsin Elections Commission that formally affirms that they will not seek re-election two weeks before the deadline to file nomination papers. The deadline for 2024 is May 24th.
Since I have been an activist, Katsma has always faced a Democratic challenger in the general election. I know it is early, but so far no Democratic is making enough noise to attract my attention or has filed to run for office. There is a early Republican contender though and many in the area highly expect a Republican primary for this district.

In the event that we end up with divided government in the 2024-25 legislation session, the official formation of The Wisconsin Cannabis Caucus would be a must first step towards reform. The official establishment of this Caucus will represent the growing, bipartisan support in Wisconsin.
