Jeff Johnson (D) to challenge Patrick Snyder (R) for AD 85

The 85th Assembly District (MAP) is entirely in Marathon County including the cities of Wausau, Rothschild, Schofield, Hatley, Elderon.

Marathon County 2018 Referendum:  “Should the State of Wisconsin allow individuals with debilitating medical conditions to use and safely access marijuana for medical purposes, if those individuals have a written recommendation from a licensed Wisconsin physician?”

On July 1, 2020, WisconsinEye senior producer Steve Walters interviewed Jeff Johnson (D-Wausau) who is running for the 85th Assembly District in the upcoming partisan primary election.

Jeff Johnson cuts to the chase and within the first two minutes of the interview says marijuana is safer then alcohol. He mentions referendum in his county and goes onto explain why he thinks Wisconsin is stupid for not legalizing medical and recreational marijuana. In 2018 Snyder was interviewed as a candidate about marijuana and you can review that here. He has only served two terms and growing on issue of medical marijuana. His district shows high support for cannabis reform and Rep. Snyder responded by at least co-sponsoring the bill to create a medical marijuana program in Wisconsin. Rep. Snyder received a B- grade from NORML during the 2019-20 legislative session.
