Dr. Richard Sarnwick (D)

Dr. Richard Sarnwick DO (D – Shawano) from Shawano ran for this office in 2018. Here is his Q&A on marijuana reform back then:

Would you support changing state law to legalize marijuana and/or cannabis products? If so, under what conditions? If not, why?

Dr. Richard Sarnwick: I feel the state should just legalize marijuana. People who use it get it anyway. Take the sale of marijuana away from people who are selling it illegally, and tax the heck out of it.  Use the tax money to fund drug treatment programs, and mental health programs. We should be willing to pay mental health caregivers a great salary, attract them to our state and we will all see dividends from a program like this. I see opportunity to improve our drug treatment and mental health programs using this model.

Rep. Gary Tauchen Marijuana Record

Rep. Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel) received a D+ at this time. His opposition statement is weak, his own survey yeilded 63% support for medical, he did not co-sponsor the Republican medical marijuana bill and he is Vice Chair on the Assembly Committee of State Affairs which has not scheduled any marijuana legislation for a public hearing.

Holds office State Assembly District 6

Position on Marijuana Legalization: Would you support changing state law to legalize marijuana and/or cannabis products? If so, under what conditions? If not, why?

Last session we passed two pieces of legislation. One allows industrial hemp to be grown in Wisconsin. The other makes it lawful for doctors to prescribe cannabinoid (CBD) oil to patients. My concern is that the federal government considers marijuana a controlled substance. I don’t feel comfortable moving forward until the jurisdictional issues are addressed. In Wisconsin we do not tax medical supplies.

Comments: 2019 Spring GOP Survey of his constituents 63% supported medical marijuana.
