William “Will” Leverson (R) to challenge Greta Neubauer (D) for AD 66
On November 7, 2017, Representative Cory Mason (D) announced that he would resign from the state Assembly District 66 effective January 15, 2018. He was elected as mayor of Racine on October 17, 2017. District 66 is primarily the city of Racine and outlying areas (Link to District Map)
A special election for the position of Wisconsin State Assembly District 66 was held on January 16, 2018. Greta Neubauer (D) won unopposed in the general election.
Neubauer defeated John Tate II in the Democratic primary. No Republican candidates filed for 2018 special election.
As a freshman assembly representative from Racine, Greta Neubauer did not co-sponsor any marijuana legislation her first session. Although she made a public statement about the marijuana reform in the budget, her statements did not touch on adult use/recreational marijuana.
With her district showing 85% support for medical and 59% for recreational marijuana in the 2018 referendums, we had high hopes this representative would have co-sponsored all marijuana reform bills in the 2019-2020. She received a C- grade from NORML during the last legislative session. Should she be re-elected in 2020, she can raise her grade by working on the issue.

Republican Will Leverson from Racine has some strong personal views about marijuana reform. His experiences both in and out of politics is what he attributes his favorable view of marijuana reform.
Leverson responded via the 2020 NORML Candidate Questionnaire that he supports ending federal marijuana prohibition, as well as decriminalization, medicalization and legalization of cannabis in Wisconsin. He added that he supports the comprehensive bill AB 220 that was introduced last legislative session.
This information and his conversations with NORML representatives have lead to an A+ grade from NORML as a candidate during the Smoke the Vote Project.
