Aaron Perry (D) to challenge Scott Allen (R)
Republican assembly representative Scott Allen from Waukesha has not co-sponsored any legislation on marijuana reform since elected in 2014. He did call for more “research” and took the time to circulate a letter among his co-workers, so that counts for the + in the D.
During 2019, the Assembly Republicans prefiled a bill for the 2020 legislative session to create a medical marijuana program in Wisconsin (Assembly Bill 750). Despite 77% support for the 2018 City of Waukesha Medcial Marijuana Advisory Referendum he failed to co-sponsor a bill crafted by the Republican Caucus.
March 2020 Republicans circulated a decriminalization bill for co-sponsorship which he failed to co-sponsor.
Holds office State Assembly District 97
Rep. Allen Position on Marijuana Legalization: August 2019: We should point out that Rep. Allen is opposed to legalizing recreational marijuana, but believes there might be some room for expanded research into the use of cannabis for medical purposes. “For decades, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been the agency which oversees scientific processes into the safety and efficacy of medicines,” said Rep. Allen. “Now policymakers are being asked to preempt that process and legalize a drug for medicinal or recreational use. We need more information. The FDA and federal law enforcement can serve as conduits in gathering relevant data. Congress needs to take action to expedite relevant research.”

Comments: August 2019 Representative Scott Allen (R-Waukesha) began circulating a letter to colleagues in the Wisconsin state legislature asking federal officials to streamline medical research and collect data surrounding cannabis and marijuana

Aaron Perry is the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin state assembly in the 97th district.
You could say medical marijuana seemed high on the list of issues for Waukesha alderman Aaron Perry back in Feb 2018 and now as a candidate adult personal use marijuana makes that list.
As an alderman he lead the effort for the City of Waukesha Marijuana Advisory Referendum which yielded huge support. By a more than 3-to-1 margin, 77 to 23 percent voters approved of medical marijuana.
I asked him about his stance on adult use (recreational) marijuana, or his stance on marijuana reform in general. He replied he was “In favor of medicinal asap and recreational next. If both are in the same bill, it has my vote.”
Wisconsin had consecutive legislation sessions with a comprehensive combo bill to allow adult use and medical, we are excited to see a candidate supporting this idea.
Aaron Perry was awarded an A+ rating from NORML.
