12-14-2010 Northern NORML Wisconsin Meeting Minutes
Willie Nelson TeaPot Party discussion – he was arrested and spent time in jail recently for 2.5 oz – he is starting the TeaPot party – so this is a great time to coordinate and organize with other activists. The mainstream media does not seem to be covering this so anything you can do to publicize it is great. Madison is trying to organize something for tomorrow.
Next tuesday – 11:30am meeting – Senator Luther olsen is going to attend our meeting and address us promptly at 11:30am, barring any weather or other complications. He originally had agreed to Dec 7th but had gotten called back to Madison. So, we are looking forward to this and to asking him some questions and hearing what he has to say regarding the top ways we can make a difference in the legislative process. This is a pretty big deal, to have a senator agree to come and speak with a NORML group. Other NORML groups have tried and not had luck getting legislators to speak at their meetings.
Joel Winnig is running for Supreme Court – he is an attorney in Madison who is trying to run a publicly funded campaign. He is friendly to the issue and Jay met him at Madison Harvest Fest in October and had a chance to speak with him and this is a progression of that meeting. He wants to legalize marijuana for responsible adult usage. He is serious and has hired a fundraising campaign team out of Madison / Milwaukee to get the donations that he needs. He needs $5 donations – he doesn’t even really want more than that – his fundraiser didn’t go as well as he expected so he does need $5 donations – he needs 1000 of them.
Milwaukee is trying to form a NORML chapter – they will be meeting January 3rd at the Brewing Grounds for Change on Farwell. See Dan K Schroeder and Jay Selthofner on Facebook for updates.
The same day, Ian Olsen is organizing a protest to welcome Scott Walker to Madison. Madison NORML is going to be there. We are not attending as a group but we are just putting it out there. Jay suggested that what we need to put in the brown bag is the marijuana laws.
National News – Gary Johnson came out in 2005 and said that he used medical marijuana instead of opiates – and he is now looking at being a 2012 presidential candidate.
