I have been holding my tongue but after I saw some refer madness in the newspaper, thought I had better help spread some truth about hemp and cannabis. I will try to do so by talking honesty and with compassion, just as others in our community are trying to do also.
Let’s start at the beginning. One can say the United States SHOULD be nuts for the seed from the hemp cannabis plant, because it is truly one of nature’s perfect foods. The seed is actually a nut and “hempseed” has a long standing relationship with all of humanity. Now, modern science revealed that the hempseed contains all essential amino acids and fatty acids necessary for human life. What? Yes, this is true. Not only that, but the seed contains a rare protein known as globule edestins, very similar to the globulin found in human blood plasma.
If you want jobs in Wisconsin, legalize industrial hemp. Grow it, process it, refine it, transport it, sell it, market it, eat it, use it, and prosper from it. The Hempnut can be used to make bread, granola, ice cream, milk, cereal and protein powder. The seedcake can be used for flour and animal food. Hempoil from the seed can create food products such as salad oils, EFA food supplements, margarine, sauté oil and body care products like soap, shampoo, hand cream, cosmetics and lip balm. Technical products made from hempoil include diesel fuel, printing ink, lubricants, varnish, solvents and oil paints.
This plant does not stop at the seed, the whole stalk (comprised of bast fibre and hurd/woody core) can be used to produce apparel, fabrics, bags, shoes, socks, cordage, netting, canvas, carpeting, geotextiles, bio composite, compression moulding, fibre board, insulations, hempcrete, animal bedding, mulch, boiler fuel, chemical absorbent, paper product, cigarette filters, newsprint, packaging, cardboard and netting.
If you want lower healthcare costs – then allow patients and doctors to treat. Do not let insurance companies, special interests or government stop 100% natural medicines any longer. Legalize medical marijuana as an alternative to pharmaceuticals and let Wisconsin participate in the research, development, manufacture and distribution of this medicine, creating jobs in multiple sectors. The natural plant medicine can be used to treat Gliomas, Alzheimer’s, Fibromyalgia, Hepatitis C, Diabetes, Osteoporosis, MRSA, Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, Chronic Pain, Tourette’s Syndrome, HIV, Hypertension, Sleep Apnea, GI disorders, Incontinence and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Marijuana has been used since prehistory, it is only in recent years our government outlawed the use of the plant in all forms. Despite what some still believe marijuana is non-toxic and non-intoxicating. Marijuana is psychoactive, like caffeine. And most importantly, because THC does not react to the brain stem, it is impossible to overdose. No one has ever died from consuming marijuana.
If you look at the history of this plant we know as marijuana and can see through the cloud of smoke created over the years, you will see it is time to legalize and utilize this plant once again.
